Invert PDF colors for printing
Got a dark PDF — lecture slides with black backgrounds, notes written in white ink — that would drain a toner cartridge? A full color inversion is one option, but it also turns every grey and photo into a negative.
For printing there is a better preset: Print Lighten maps dark pages to light ones with gentle math (white → white, black → 30% grey), so slides print clean and readable while photos stay natural.
Inverting PDF colors on Mac (Preview)
macOS Preview cannot batch-invert a PDF and save it. The old workaround — a custom Quartz filter — has been unreliable for years, and Smart Invert in Accessibility settings only changes your screen, not the file.
